If you’re searching for a magical family outing this Christmas, Beauty and the Beast at Lyric is the perfect choice! This enchanting tale unfolds in Carmarthen’s Lyric Theatre, where Theatrau Sir Gâr, in partnership with Imagine Theatre, brings this beloved story to life with vibrant sets, dazzling costumes, and a cast full of Welsh talent. It’s a heart-warming story about love conquering all, complete with laughs, thrilling moments, and a few surprises that will keep kids and adults alike on the edge of their seats.
The story follows a cursed prince transformed into a fearsome beast, with only one hope of breaking the spell: finding true love before the last petal falls from an enchanted rose. Enter Beauty, a kind and curious soul, who may be his last chance for redemption. But can she look beyond his monstrous exterior? And can the Beast find it within himself to love again? It’s a beautiful, action-packed adventure with just the right mix of romance, humour, and heart.
This year’s production features a stellar lineup of local talent. Carmarthen’s own West End performer, Steve Elias, is stepping into the role of Dame Sylvia Scrub-It, bringing his signature charm and comedic flair. Carwyn Glyn, a familiar face from Pobol y Cwm, plays the lovable Sammy Scrub-It, and Bridgend’s Ceri-Anne Thomas shines as Belle. Add to this cast Alexandra George as the mystical Enchantress and *Coronation Street*’s Neil Moors as the dastardly Gaston, and you’ve got a cast ready to bring *Beauty and the Beast* to life with a local twist.
For families needing accessibility, there are special performances designed to ensure everyone enjoys the show. The BSL performance is scheduled for Sunday, 15th December at 6 pm, and a relaxed performance will run on Friday, 27th December at 6 pm, perfect for younger children or anyone who benefits from a more laid-back setting.
